Job Description

About MHA

MHA – Mental Health Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people live their best life. We provide a wide range of services across Western Massachusetts, including outpatient therapy, substance use recovery, supports for individuals with developmental disabilities or brain injuries, and residential and housing programs. MHA serves individuals impacted by mental illness, substance use, developmental disabilities, brain injuries, and homelessness. Our mission is rooted in inclusion, dignity, and empowering people to lead fulfilling, independent lives.

About the Division of Recovery Services (DRS)

MHA’s Division of Recovery Services (DRS) supports individuals of all ages who are navigating mental health and substance use challenges. Our youth residential programs serve adolescents involved with the Department of Children and Families (DCF) who are working through behavioral health needs in a safe, structured environment.

DRS also provides residential and outreach support for adults in recovery or currently living with addiction, many of whom may also experience co-occurring mental health concerns. Through compassionate, trauma-informed care, we help individuals build coping skills, restore stability, and work toward long-term recovery and wellness.

Position Summary

We’re looking for a dedicated, compassionate, and inspiring Life Coach to join our supportive and mission-driven team. In this role, you will work directly with young adults who are striving to live independently in the community. You will provide hands-on guidance, emotional support, and practical skill-building to help individuals overcome obstacles and build fulfilling, self-directed lives.

This position offers a unique opportunity to make a real and lasting impact—by helping others take meaningful steps toward independence, self-reliance, and community connection. Whether you’re teaching basic life skills, navigating resources, or helping someone find their voice, your work will matter every single day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help young adults learn and apply independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking, personal hygiene, transportation, and time management.
  • Model healthy habits and behaviors, including wellness practices, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy.
  • Facilitate one-on-one and group sessions to teach life skills, promote personal growth, and encourage peer support.
  • Serve as a trusted advocate for the individuals you support—helping them navigate challenges, access services, and build confidence.
  • Assist in preparing for and participating in formal and informal meetings such as treatment planning, job interviews, and social services.
  • Support individuals through key transitions, including program entry, graduation, and post-program steps.
  • Connect individuals to community resources, events, and peer-run groups that align with their goals and interests.
  • Plan and coordinate activities that foster social interaction, skill development, and a sense of belonging within the broader community.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records including progress notes, data entry, and any required reporting per agency and regulatory guidelines.
  • Coordinate with vocational, educational, and clinical staff to provide holistic support.
  • Provide transportation when needed to support community involvement, appointments, or program participation.

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Certifications in CPR, First Aid, and MAP (or willingness to obtain) required.
